Dr Neale Fong – Board Chairman
Bringing high level corporate and leadership skills to the role of Chairman, Bethesda Board, Neale currently holds the position of Director and Professor of Healthcare Leadership at the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI) in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Curtin University. He is also the Project Director for the Curtin Medical School Project. His previous relevant experience includes the role of CEO of St John of God Health Care, Subiaco (one of Australia’s largest private hospitals) and Director General of Health, WA, a member of AHMAC (Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council) and Chairman of the Health Workforce Principal Committee. He currently holds a number of Board Director roles, including the Executive Chairman of Chrysalis Resources, a publicly listed company.


Ric Leaver – Deputy Chairman/Chair, Finance and Audit Committee
Ric Leaver brings strong finance skills to the Director position as well as many years of Board and CEO experience in health and aged care–related organisations. In previous roles, he has developed and implemented strategy to establish the groundwork for major reforms that resulted in a successful organisational transformations and rapid growth. His experience spans public, private and not-for-profit businesses, resulting in an acute understanding of the complexities of the various sectors in delivering health outcomes.



Dr Alister Turner – Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee
Alister is a leading Perth plastic surgeon, having been involved with Bethesda Hospital for more than 15 years and holding a Director position over that period. He chairs the Medical Advisory Committee, the Credentialling and Scope of Practice Committee as well as the Clinical Quality and Safety Committee. Previous Board roles he has held include Chairman, Western Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and President, Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.




Jeff Ovens - Director
Jeff brings strong business development and finance skills to the Board, with a recent relevant background in major structural reform designed to increase overall organisational performance. He has been in a previous role with Prime Health Group in the capacity as Chief Operating Officer, charged with the responsibility of developing and implementing strategy aimed at identifying key performance results.
From 2005-2008, he worked with the Department of Health, WA overseeing the implementation of strategy to achieve significant system efficiencies, including procurement reform. Jeff has experience in high level workforce capability and capacity issues in health as well as marketing, public relations and information technology.


Dominic Bourke - Director
Dominic contributes strong legal skills in his position as Director, boasting a long and distinguished career of practising in the commercial litigation field, specialising in medical defence work and insurance law. Becoming a partner at Clayton Utz in 1978, he has had extensive experience in Coronial matters and has acted as Counsel in numerous inquests, appearing for medical and dental practitioners and also for clients in the mining and refining industries. Due to his comprehensive knowledge, he has significantly influenced developments shaping the Coroner’s Act and Coronial system.


Assoc. Professor Yasmin Naglazas – Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer
Yasmin comes to the role of CEO having extensive experience in business restructuring and large-scale organisational reform with a focus on business growth in health and aged/community services. She is responsible for leading the hospital and providing an overall framework to undertake strategy with a strong focus on ongoing viability and sustainability, developing organisational capacity for future growth, culture and maintaining and strengthening Bethesda Hospital’s Mission. She reports to the Board on strategic risk and governance and is responsible for future development and diversification options to meet community needs.


Joan Sheppard – Executive Manager, Clinical & Corporate Services
Joan was recruited into this role because of her significant experience and expertise in change management and establishing hospital quality and safety systems. She has a highly developed skill set related to clinical quality and risk, including medical review, accreditation and credentialing of surgeons and doctors. She is currently responsible for implementing the hospital’s strategic plan at the tactical level, establishing and reporting on KPIs to ensure business and service targets are being met.
